Caribbean cinema at the Museum of African Diaspora

Our good friends over at SF’s Museum of African Diaspora have curated an exceptional series of films from the Caribbean and we are so excited to co-host.

Over the course of the summer, we’ve seen a music documentary about
Creole singer Jocelyne Béroard from the French Antilles and a feature about the very inspiring Trinidadian war hero Ulric Cross.

Ulric Cross escaped colonial Trinidad to help defeat Hitler in the 40s. After law school, he lectured back home, in London and in Africa. As a judge in his later years, he made sweeping judgments that changed the legal landscape for the future of Trinidadians.

On August 7, independent filmmakers Lyka Sethi and Geoffrey Iwata debut Moving In Place from Puerto Rico. The film documents young Puerto Ricans affected by Hurricane Maria, missteps of the recovery effort, and their future on the island versus the mainland.

Festival co-director, Lucho Ramirez will introduce the film. Find tickets on MOAD’s website here. Hope to see you!
