Juan, Sara and Samuel, all 15 years old, flee from Guatemala towards the USA. On their journey through Mexico they meet Chauk, a Tzotzil indian who does not speak Spanish and has no official documents. They all believe they will find a better world beyond the USA-Mexico border but they run into a harsh reality.

With over 80 awards, including for Best Film and Best Director at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, and for Best New Director at the Chicago Film Festival, La Jaula de Oro became the most internationally awarded Mexican film in history. The film swept the 56th edition of the Ariel Awards–Mexico’s national cinema honors–receiving nine awards including for Best Picture, Debut Feature, Original Screenplay, Actor (Brandon López) and supporting actor (Rodolfo Domínguez). The young ensemble cast was honored with the Un Certain Talent Award at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

Juan, Sara y Samuel, 15 años, huyen de Guatemala para intentar llegar a Estados Unidos. Durante su paso por México, conocen a Chauk, un indígena tzotzil que no habla español y viaja sin papeles. Los adolescentes aspiran a un mundo mejor más allá de las fronteras mexicanas, pero muy pronto van a enfrentarse a una realidad muy distinta.
